Retirement Livery at Balterley Stables
Retire or rest your horse in Cheshire
Balterley Stables provides a beautiful, tranquil place to retire or rest your horse. The business is run by Tina Davies and is situated 5 minutes from junction 16 on the M6, on the Cheshire/Staffordshire border. Tina is a BHS qualified instructor, has over 30 years experience with horses, and has managed livery yards for 20 years.
The quiet Cheshire countryside offers a relaxing and stress free environment, away from the hustle and bustle of large yards. We pride ourselves on being a small yard, and able to offer the individual attention your horse deserves. The fields used for retirement horses are completely separate to other liveries so there is never any risk your horse will be left alone. They graze in small groups so they never have to fight for food or shelter.
Although we are surrounded by farmland, security is a very high priority to us, and the stables are only accessible though electric gates, using security passes. The yard has 24/7 supervision and is monitored by CCTV. All this along with our guard dog Henry, ensures the yard is private and secure, and most importantly, your horse is safe.
Our all weather turnout facility, has been purpose built and allows the horses and ponies to live outside 24/7, with the following benefits:
- No mud! This area has been drained and is covered with an equestrian surface.
- Access to field shelters with rubber mats and salt licks.
- Water troughs
- Haynets morning and early evening.
Older horses flourish being turned out as much as possible. Those who live outdoors are typically healthier than horses who are stabled, it particularly helps:
- Arthritis management, movement benefits older joints.
- Respiratory health.
- Overall fitness.
- Mental and social stimulation. Living outside in a friendly herd provides
horses with the companionship and social interactions they crave.
